Taste of the Valley
The Hemet San Jacinto Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a “Taste of the Valley” on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The event will be hosted by the Simpson Center located at 305 E. Devonshire Ave. in Hemet.
This event is free and open to the public and will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come experience local restaurants, businesses, and entertainment all in one venue. To reserve a booth or for more details call (951) 658-3211 or visit www.hemetsanjacintochamber.com
Senior Wednesday Night Dances at Hemet West A highlight of the Senior Wednesday Night Dances at Hemet West is the various themes, and the attractive clubhouse is decorated accordingly, while the dancers enjoy dressing according to the themes. This year will feature themes such as Denim and Diamonds; Western, Valentine’s Day (couples that met at the dance); Jump, Jive, and Swing; Mardi Gras; St. Patrick’s Day; Cruise Night; Cinco de Mayo; Disco; Flag Day; Senior Prom (semi-formal); Western; Hawaiian Luau; Roaring Twenties, Sock Hop; Halloween; Veteran’s Salute; Harvest Ball (semi-formal); Hollywood Night; and Rocking the Holidays. There are excellent different dance bands each Wednesday. The ceiling lights dim, replaced by atmospheric multi-colored sparkling lights, and the fun-filled evening of dancing begins. Jan. 23 – Rhonda and Showdown. Jan. 30 – Stage Robbers, with a Western theme. Feb. 6 – Dave Ambrose. Feb. 13 – Ron and Diane. Valentine’s Day theme; honoring couples that met at the dance. Feb. 20 – Country Sounds. Feb. 27 – E’Klektic. Jump, Jive, and Swing theme. These dances, which are open to the public, are from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and continue throughout the summer. Admission is $6 per person, proper attire is required (no work jeans, tank tops, or shorts), and alcohol is not allowed. Opportunity drawings offer free tickets. Tables have snacks, and pitchers of water; and freshly brewed tea and coffee is available. January events at the Diamond Valley Arts Center DVAC Music at the Center: Coleslaw in Concert Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. Coleslaw will be performing a concert at The Diamond Valley Arts Center (DVAC), in historic downtown Hemet. General admission is $20, for DVAC members is $15, and for students it’s $10. Tickets can be purchased online at www.theDVAC.org, at DVAC, or at the door.

Hemet Harmoneers Chorale Rehearsals Mary Ellen Van Ostenbridge, musical director for the Hemet-based Harmoneers Chorale, came to the Harmoneers 11 years ago bringing a lifetime love of music and singing to the Hemet/San Jacinto area. She has led the chorale to perform moving, exciting and sometimes humorous music before ever-growing audiences. Such musical success is the result of much hard work over many weeks of preparation, during which Mary Ellen is serious, demanding, inspiring and fun. Rehearsals are now under way for the Harmoneers Spring concert to be performed in May, every Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the First Presbyterian Church located at 515 E. Kimball in Hemet. Anyone who would like to join this group is invited to come a early for a simple audition. Annual dues are $40. For more information contact harmoneerschorale@gmail.com.

Widowed Persons Activities Club Monthly meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month at the Simpson Center, 305 E. Devonshire Ave., Hemet (behind the library). The group often has keynote speakers on topics of interest to members. The club has 50/50 drawings, card bingo, etc. To ensure a good fit, prospective members are encouraged to try up to three activities before joining.
